Deacon Thomas E Boucek
Child, Disciple, Apostle
Ordained Deacon, May 22, 2010
Member of St Theresa Parish since 1982
Born to George and Beatrice Boucek in October of 1947 in Pittsburgh PA, he is the third of five children. His Dad was a dentist and almost half of his practice consisted of charity work which included many religious from the diocese of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University and Mercy Hospital. Deacon Tom attended St Teresa of Avila Catholic grade school in Pittsburgh and it was in the third grade that he met Sharon Conti, who fifteen years later would become his wife
He married Sharon Conti in 1969, and in 1976 received his degree in psychology from Iowa State University. Father of three, his first son, Bill was born in Waukegan Illinois in 1974, Dawn Marie in Pittsburgh in 1977 and Sean Michael in Portland Oregon in1980. All three graduated from St Theresa School in New Cumberland and Trinity High School. All three are married and there are currently five grandchildren.
Bill and Sean are both graduates of the College of Engineering at Villanova. Dawn Marie received her degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh and is now teaching in Pittsburgh.
After graduating from College, Deacon Tom took a position with Amp Incorporated in field sales. Over the next 24 years he would move through Marketing, Corporate Negotiations, Executive Development, and Operations where he directed an Engineering and Manufacturing organization of over 250 people. His final position was Director of Global Product Marketing.
He currently owns and operates a number of Sylvan Learning Centers working with school age children and attempts to serve the mission statement which focuses on “Changing Lives . . . Together … Through Learning”
He is a daily Communicant and considers himself blest with being able to spend an hour a day before the Blessed Sacrament. In May 1999 with the approval and guidance of Monsignor Lawrence he petitioned and received permission from Bishop Datillo to initiate perpetual adoration at St Theresa for our Deanery. With the assistance of many from St Theresa Parish and several other parishes on the West Shore and through the power of the Holy Spirit they were fully functional with perpetual adoration by the fall of that year.
He is active in both the Cursillo and the Charismatic Movements and his daily prayers include “Jesus, please teach me how to Love . . . and increase my Faith” His journey to ordination in 2010 took him through many areas of the parish and allowed him to be blessed with involvement with Adoration Chapel folks, the Oktoberfest group, the Evangelization Committee, the Sister Parish group, Personnel Committee, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharistic, Marriage Mentors, Pastoral Council, and the Cursillo and Charismatic Community.
He considers it an honor to serve the people of St Theresa Parish where he is well aware that God has richly blessed him and that he receives far more from the parish than he could ever hope to contribute.
